Blogger's Quilt Festival Entry 2 - Small Quilt

I am resharing a couple of my favorite recent quilts today, as entries for the Spring 2014 Blogger's Quilt Festival. Amy at Amy's Creative Side does a fabulous job hosting this event twice a year! The link party is open until May 23rd. Each quilter may enter up to two finished quilts, each with it’s own post, in separate categories.  All you have to do is write a post and link up. There are so many inspiring quilts linked up already!

I am entering my Baby Jane Twister quilt into the Small Quilt category. This quilt measures 48" by 48". This quilt top is based off of my Twister at the Reunion quilt top design, with a few minor adjustments. This quilt is very special to me, because it was my first real commission. When I accepted, I had no idea how intense it would be...because of me, not the client! I really wanted everything to be perfect. I spent 60 hours over a period of a week working on this quilt, so it kind of feels like an old friend! My favorite parts of this quilt are the border and the binding. Those elements really tie the whole quilt together.

Sometimes the quilt backs are just as much fun to do as the quilt tops! As a person with a somewhat unusual name (Taryn), I feel like it is my responsibility to make sure every baby has at least one item with their name on it! :D

You can read more about my process on this quilt at this link.

Blogger's Quilt Festival Entry 1 - ROYGBIV

I am resharing a couple of my favorite recent quilts today, as entries for the Spring 2014 Blogger's Quilt Festival. Amy at Amy's Creative Side does a fabulous job hosting this event twice a year! Patchwork Prism | 70"x76"

This quilt was made using the Patchwork Prism pattern by Anna Maria Horner. The Patchwork Prism is special to me for so many reasons! I started this quilt in May 2012, at the very beginning of my quilting journey. What is easy for me now, was definitely a challenge then! It was definitely a big learning experience for me. It also represents one of my favorite things about quilting; being surrounded by beautiful, rich colors all the time! Lastly, I love how I can look back on this quilt as a kind of history. Each scrap tells a story. I can point to any one of the triangles and remember a past project.

Even though I am entering this one into the ROYGBIV category, my absolute favorite part of this quilt is the black and white backing! It took me a while to figure out how to translate my vision for the back into fabric, but it was well worth the time.

You can read more about my process during his quilt at this link.

Deep in the Heart of Texas Roadtrip Quilt Along

Hey y'all! I'm here to share some information about a fun new quilt along being organized by Melissa at My Fabric Relish and Cristina at Pretty Little Quilts. I'll be representing my hometown of Beaumont on July 10th.

Starting June 1st, we will be taking a virtual road trip across Texas! On the road trip, we will be learning how to make a Texas Quilt. The quilt will be similar to Cristina's Texas quilt, except that ours will have a bunch of fantastic cities represented with their own custom blocks!

At each city stop we will learn how to make a block designed for that city, learn about quilt shops and touristy spots around the area and get the chance to win some awesome prizes! The final link-up and Quilt Parade will be on August 17th.

The schedule for the QAL is as follows:

June 2 - Dallas - Ashley at Urban Spools
June 5 - Tyler - Colleen guest blogger at Pretty Little Quilts
June 12 - Fort Worth - Lindsey and Jodie at Fort Worth Fabric Studio
June 16 - Amarillo - Aoife at thREDhead
June 19 - Lubbock - Jada (guest blogger) at My Fabric Relish
June 23 - El Paso - Jennie at Porch Swing Quilts
