I love this Erin Condren life planner that I won from Danny@Mommy For Reals! |
I wasn't participating in the Zakka Sew Along, but I was thinking about making a pen case to stick in my purse and this week just happened to be Pencil Case week. Organizational containers in my purse usually end up empty within the week, but I like this case so hopefully my pens will make a permanent home in it. Sticking everything in the main compartment is just so convenient, except for the whole taking thirty minutes to find anything aspect! Instead of the strips, I used some random Stitch in Color scraps I had. I knew those pieces I messed up on would come in handy someday! I left them a bit wonky, because Stitch in Color lends itself to that look. It took me a little bit to wrap my head around the step before turning, but thankfully the A-HA moment came! Sometimes you just have to stare at the directions until it comes to you. This would be an awesome gift and it took way less than an hour to put together!
Fresh Sewing Day: Buried at the bottom of the post, because I am embarrassed at my lack of progress:

Such fresh colours! I'm glad I'm not the only one just starting their Farmer's Wife blocks! You however, are further ahead than I am, I should get the book in today's mail!!
Hi Taryn - I love your pencil case. I haven't joined the sew along yet but after seeing all the finishes, I think I'm going to try some of the projects - I'll probably start with this one.
Lovely pencil case! I love your patchwork strips.
Neat pencil case, will know who to contact if I don't get the AHA moment:)
16 Farmer's wife blocks! Sounds like you will be busy this month.
Very pretty! I'm sure your pens will want to stay living in there!
Your shawl is beautiful :)
Love the pencil case!
Taryn...thanks for saying nice things about my 2 cases...and I totally 'snap'you on the a-ha moment because I had to read it a few times myself. It seems you have done a lot of basting and that is no small thing - so May might just be your quilty month! Found you through ZSSA and Fresh Sewing Day and your comment.
Love your version of the pencil case! I just made mine...had that same reaction. Luckily I took it slowly, having seen some reports of trouble. It was actually such a cool technique!!!
Your pencil case is great. As far as progress goes over the month goes, I think the only worthwhile measure is have you enjoyed your projects? Yes? Excellent progress!
Love the pencil case! And your Charmed Stars quilt is stunning. Looks like you'll have a busy month of May. Can't wait to see your new Farmer's Wife blocks.
Very sweet pen case!
I think you've made some great things this month - and gosh that lovely shawl would have been quite time consuming! Well done on a big finish there!
What a great pencil case! Some months projects just seem to make themselves and other months....your Charmed Star quilt top is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Great wee case, lets just hope your theory holds for it!
I think some months we just deserve to have a life that isn't sewing related, this was obviously one for you!
I love the pencil case and your Charmed Star quilt. I'm in the middle of quilting right now, too. Eyes on the prize! I know your quilt will look amazing when it's finished.
Lovely pencil case and good luck with your To Do list for May, thank you for linking up :-)
