One Hour Skirt using Alexander Henry's Amelie |
The new skills for me on this skirt were elastic & French seams. I almost skipped over the French seams, because it sounded fancy and hard. I am so glad I didn't, because it was so easy and it looks so nice!
I am also working on the "Shirred to the Max" dress in the same book. I am hoping one of you is a shirring expert! While it did shrink down to almost half its size (really fun to watch for the easily amused), I still need it to lose 5.5 more inches. I had the steam iron on full blast and I threw it in the washer and dryer...nothing!
My last new thing was using my narrow hem foot. It worked really well! I had to practice a few times to get the hang of using the scroll. It makes a real nice finish.

Only a few more days until the New York Beauty QAL starts, I'm so excited!

Edit: Just realized it is Small Blog Meet Day at Lily's Quilts! The Small Blog Meet helps newer bloggers with less than 50 followers meet others out in blogland. I love meeting new people and seeing everyone's projects, so this is a really great opportunity. I met a lot of great bloggers last time I participated, so I am really excited to join up again. You can check it out by clicking on the button to the left!

Well done for tackling all those new things! I have a shirred disaster (caused by a combo of me and the machine that needs to be unpicked and redone, but I need to be feeling strong to have a go at it, and so it sits...)
Awesome new try. Funny, I started with making clothes as a kid, but now I only quilt. I can't even seem to mend my clothes, lol. Great job!
Wow, you have been busy, so many new skills too! Never tried shirring, don't think it will be on my list of things to do anytime soon.
This is so beautiful. I'm not brave enough to try clothes yet, but hopefully I'll get my courage up later this year!
The skirt is fabulous!!! So love the print you choose :) Thanks for linking up :)
Just stopping by from Lily's small blog meet. I love the look of your blog and I look forward to reading your posts. From one non-direction reader to another . . .
Love the skirt...florals are suppose to be all the rage this spring! Thanks for stopping by today:D
I used to dressmake before quilting took over....things never seemed to fit!!
New follower here, found my way from the small blog meet. I love your blog, so many beautiful things! I see you have the new york beauty button - I am hoping to do that too! :)
Hi Taryn, Stopping by from the Small Blog Meet. What a lovely site and I love your quilts too. Look forward to following your work.

Hi Taryn - thanks for stopping by my blog earlier. Your work is lovely. Good on you for trying dressmaking! I'm also doing the NY Beauty QAL - can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.
Hi there, stopping by from Lily's SBM. Great to meet you and looking forward to reading more of your blog. x
Love the skirt - it has been years since I did any garment sewing. Keep thinking it would be nice to give it another try but can't drag myself away from quilting!
I just found your blog through TNT Thursday at Happy Quilting. I really like your skirt, such beautiful fabric. I've heard great things about that book, maybe I'll go have a look on Amazon!
